London Labour Regional Executive Committee Report – December
Yesterday evening (4 December) the Regional Executive met for a special meeting requested by left members of the REC to deal with a number of outstanding issues. Here’s a summary of the decisions:
Regional Conference
Each region of Labour Party should have an annual conference, with every second year re-electing the Regional Executive Committee. Our last Regional Conference was in May 2019, and no conference was held this year because of Covid.
To give CLPs and affiliates adequate time to plan, elect delegates and choose motions the REC have decided to hold the 2021 Regional Conference in November 2021. This is later than we ideally would have wanted, but can see no way of carrying it out democratically with the May 2021 Mayoral elections and continuing uncertainty about how Covid will affect the first few months of 2021.
CLP Digital AGMs
There has been some inconsistencies about support for digital AGMs, so the REC have taken a position which gives some clarity.
All CLP secretaries will be asked if they require technical support to run their AGMs, and if this is requested this will be provided by either regional staff or REC members. All CLP AGMs will have an observer from the REC. CLP secretaries or other members with any questions about this can get in touch with their CLP reps on contact details kept here – https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/1AcIQPGP8l3-FCYSUt8DJ6xMsFllJD0yGlvaUw9lXVJY/edit?fbclid=IwAR0OtSZ2_pvtrXD3wTqlsiJ6bg8qDOwEsW11grrgHBAGHuzgPgmTcKCAEw8#gid=2101684213
Local Government Committees and Selections for 2021
The Regional Executive has now established a subcommittee to oversee the transitions from Local Campaign Forums to Local Government Committees. This subcommittee will have representation from REC members from the CLP section, affiliated unions, and other key REC representatives.
We will share the full remit shortly, but it will include approving timetables for transition in consultation with relevant LCFs.
The subcommittee will meet for the first time in the next ten days. If you have any urgent questions, please get in touch with your relevant CLP representatives via the contact details above.
