I am a Labour Party member, writing to request that you review your decision to not restore the whip to the Labour Party's former Leader Jeremy Corbyn. When you announced your decision, on 18th November 2020, you committed to reviewing it. Three months have elapsed since then.

As you will be aware, a panel of NEC members, acting on behalf of the Labour Party, considered the matters raised following the General Secretary's suspension of Jeremy Corbyn MP. The party decided on 17th November to readmit him to party membership. That democratically-made decision of the party ought to be respected.

The adverse treatment of Labour's former Leader, and also of a significant number of local Constituency Labour Party officers, is an unnecessary distraction from the urgent task of confronting the Tory government over its damaging policies. Johnson's government has one of the worst records in the world for handling the pandemic and its economic consequences.

To build up support for our party we need to present an effective opposition to the government. Regrettably, the current lack of unity in the party, following your decision to withhold the whip from Jeremy Corbyn, is not helping the situation. Our party's loss of support in opinion polls since the beginning of this year, in advance of important elections this May in Scotland, Wales and local authorities, is a matter of concern.

So I would urge you to help heal the division in the party and to respect the party's decision to readmit Jeremy to membership. Please review your decision and arrange for the whip to be restored to Jeremy Corbyn.

Our party can achieve more when we are working together, challenging our electoral opponents and not distracted by unnecessary internal division.
