Message for Labour PR fans
Next time you go on a pro PR rally with assorted Greens, Lib Dems and Farage Supporters, CLPD will provide you with three placards to carry:
“We DEMAND permanent coalitions.”
“We DEMAND no majority Labour governments.”
“We DEMAND Labour fragment into several mini parties.”
Former Chief Constable speaks out
Sir Peter Fahy, former Chief Constable of Greater Manchester, put on record to the Guardian that the proposed protest laws were a mistake and posed a danger for policing – “it is short-term and politically driven… in the same way the prosecution of the Shrewsbury 24 was a reaction to the industrial strife of the 1970s… It reminds me of the miners’ strike, when policing was mobilised for a political reason.”
Flag Flapping has a long history
Rudyard Kipling described an incident in 1880 at the United Services College in Devon, where the students were destined for the armed forces and most were sons of military officers. [Kipling by the way, was the nephew of the closest friend of red hot socialist, William Morris]. An MP was giving a lecture on patriotism and produced a union flag, which he energetically waved about. The students responded to this “virtue signalling” with silence and disgust. They nicknamed him – “Jelly-bellied flag flapper”. [Thanks to Michael Bell for providing the material for this take].
